Facts

• The third Serbian city by size, after Belgrade and Novi Sad,  largest city in southeastern Serbia
• Due to its peculiar geographic position, throughout history, Niš has been known as ‘The Gateway between the East and the West’. Consequently, the city has often been a target of military invasions, whose impact is reflected in the numerous historical monuments.
• A cultural, econimic, commercial and university center of southeast Serbia
• A city located 192 m above sea level and spanning the surface area of 600 km2, with more than 250 000 inhabitants
• Connected to the world with airlines departing from “Constantine the Great” international airport

• Surrounded by magnificent mountain ranges of Mt. Suva Planina, Svrljiške Planine and Mt. Seličevica
• The birthplace of the famous Roman emperor Constantine the Great who issued the Edict of Milan in 313 embracing Christianity as the official religion of the Roman Empire
• The city in which the central celebration of 1700 years since the proclamation of the Edict of Milan and recognition of Christianity was held this year

Nis is known for a series of events and the most famous are St. Sava Ball on the water,  „Nisville“

Jazz Festival“, Art colony „Sicevo“, the international festival of amateur choir „Choral festival“

and achievements of the movie  „Film Festival“
